I've only quoted dealer prices though since I do not have auction values here for this model. As you know most of anything sourced through a dealer would be more costly.

This is a little long, but go with me here for a second;

Say you’re an Italian Navy Seal type diver during the war and you’re more often than not wading around in dark, murky water doing your best to blow stuff up while not getting caught or killed in the process. In this sort of situation I can kind of see how a massive 47mm water proof watch that glows so brightly that you can read off it kind of makes sense so that you don’t run out of oxygen or time.......

OK, now suppose you’re a modern day engineer with 20/15 vision that spends all day in front of computer in whose line of sight there are clocks everywhere. There are clocks at the bottom of every computer screen, on lots of the walls, on the desk and on the mobile phone. At home there’s a clock on the Tele, on the oven, on the microwave, on the wall, on the desk, on the side board, by the bed (both sides) and even in the toilet. On the drive to work there’s a clock on the dash, on the radio and on quite a few buildings along the way. By train there’s an atomic-synced clock at each train station and on the train itself.

Can you see where I’m going with this?

So, if I’m honest, I’m struggling to understand the point of a 47mm high visibility, manual wind, mechanical watch in the modern world where we’re all literally inundated with time telling devices of every minute of every day.... But that’s not my problem.......

My problem is that I’m trying to understand why given all that I so badly want a Radiomir PAM232 that it almost hurts....... I live in eternal hope that one day soon I’ll be able to raise a “business case” that’ll get approval from my lovely “financial controller” and then I can finally start trying to secure a now discontinued 232. Time, it seems, is against me as I know that the longer I wait, the harder it’ll become to find one especially here in Oz.

Till then, why not post picture of all of your 232’s to keep me going until that happy day...... ;-)

PS The sad part is that I've even picked out a vintage style strap. It seems that I've got Radiomir Fever,..... bad.

I tried a PO 42 on at the ad today. I swore the dial was smaller than on my Seamaster Pro but its actually an illusion caused by the ring of steel around the crystal whereas on my Seamaster Pro there is no separation between the black dial and bezel, thus the dial appears larger.

I get emails from a local theater of upcoming shows and about a week or two ago it showed Star Trek Live was coming and tickets were a whopping $10 a piece. I never heard of the show before so I Googled it and saw it seemed to have started at Kennedy Space center and it's aimed to get gets and young adults interested in space science by using Star Trek themed story and integrating current space science into it. Audience participation (volunteering to go on stage) is a big part of the show so it turned out to be funny and entertaining.

If it comes to a theater near you I recommend going if you enjoy Star Trek and are not a hardcore Trekkie (which I am not since I enjoy the show and the movies, but would never dress up or pay to go to a convention).

Alright everyone.....

The WTF Patek Philippe forum has been growing strong over the past 15 months or so. We've gotten a great group of folks here with some incredible watches - and it's high time we had them show them off..

As such, it's about time for the FIRST WATCH TALK FORUMS PATEK PHILIPPE PHOTO CONTEST!!!

So get those camera's out, warm them up, get your ideas ready & start shooting away...

The contest will open in the next few weeks, and entries will be allowed for 3 weeks or so after that. So don't say you weren't warned...

Full rules will be forthcoming, but in a nutshell it has to be a picture you personally took. You only need to take the photo, you do NOT need to actually own the watch in the photo. So whether you own the watch or are lucky enough to have a friend wiling to lend it to you for a photo shoot, you're good to go!

Let's show the other forums how many great Patek Philippe photos we can get in!

Ok, last weekend took the little one to the mall. He loves to stroll around, look at the decorations & everything.. Of course that's fine - daddy likes to look in all the watch stores...

So I got a chance again to try on "my" Patek - the 5135R.. And of course since I was there I tried on the 5135G (nice, but IMO the R is nicer) and a few other models, like the 5130 & 5146, as well as some 3 hands, like the 5296 & 5127.. But most of my time was spent on the 5135.. I love it today as much as the first day I saw it!

(BTW, asked the little guy which he liked out of all of them. Guess which he liked? Yup, the 5135, atta-boy! Of course it's also the largest & most shiny, a usual barometer for what he choses to pick up... )

OK, so here's the problem - now that I've seen it again I can't stop thinking about it & I WANT IT TODAY, TODAY, TODAY!!!!!!!!

Alas I can't though.. Close, but not yet.. SO I NEED YOUR HELP!

Post you Patek pictures here - help me get my mind off the fact there isn't a Patek on my wrist. I'll live the life thru your guys pictures - for now..

Hey Guys

Supposin' you could get the technical geniuses of Bienne to build you one special go anywhere, do anything watch. What features would it have?

I'd like the following -

1) Water-resistance
Say 200 to 300M. 300M isn't strictly necessary since I only dunk my wrist into water as opposed to dive but 300M sounds better

2) Chronograph
I find a chronograph useful. In fact I use it most days of the week so stopwatch functions would be necessary

3) Alarm
I think this speaks for itself. I'd prefer a mechanical watch so it'll have to be a mechanical alarm

4) Date
Again self-explanatory. I'd get tired of having to refer to my computer or cellphone

5) Manual-Winding
This might seem anachronistic but I do like the daily routine which helps in the bonding process.

I think that's about it. I could consider a GMT complication as well but this probably isn't a high priority if the movement was a derivative of the cal 8500 which would allow for an independently adjustable hour hand.

You may take it as read that items like sapphire crystal back and front are standard spec.

Oh......and on a bracelet of course .

To be honest (and I've Posted this question elsewhere), I've gotten the same impression about the Planet Ocean from feedback: That it's delicate, far less robust than the standard Seamaster line (I currently own the 2531.80, which, of course, is pre-Coaxial).

"Planet" and "Ocean" were beginning to feel far bigger shoes than this watch was capable of filling.

In my mind, a scratched crystal or bezel, or case or clasp, for that matter, does not make a watch less rugged. As I said, I've accepted the idea that the exposed surface A/R coating will be short-lived, relatively speaking. I also saw on John's review the implication that there are sources for completely removing that that seem relatively mainstream.

As I said, my frame of reference is the Submariner Date model 16610 Rolex. And, by the way, the bezel is scratched, between the 35- and 40-minute markers. But I wear it through thick and thin, and trust it completely: Wear it to swim in the lake, camp, kayak, bike, snow blow, mow the lawn, saw down trees, light wood-splitting. The only time I take it off is for heavy vibration work (eg, wood chipping) or metal-on-metal work, where I could bang it or hit it w/ something.

How does the PO fare in these conditions? I'm not asking if it's a beater (my Sub Date certainly isn't); I'm asking how it performs in the conditions described. And if there are appologies to be made for this Omega, then by all means do share them. But I want a watch that can stick w/ me day in and day out (let's face it, there are some situations where it's more dangerous to the watch to take it off!), w/out "footnotes."

Specifically:

Is the clasp as reliable as the one on my Rolex?
Is the movement as durable?

Thanks, guys. I really do want to judge this piece fairly. I'll be making a purchase the last week of May, and this Thread is one of those that's keeping the PO in the running (no pun intended).

Just pondering out of boredom - I really wonder why I haven't seen more of these...

This is definitely the most unique watch I own (with regards to my peers [wis] and the public owning one). When I first started researching it, I found VERY little on any of the watch boards and even less on the net. It has been discontinued for several years which would explain part of the scarcity now. I was lucky enough to have my AD get the last one in stock from Omega USA. I am wondering if Omega simply didn't make many or if it just wasn't that popular of model. It is fairly pricey compared to the regular SMP Chronos but I love it none the less. There were two versions made: the 2294.50 (mine) and an Americas cup version - 2294.52. The only real difference was the movement 3301 vs. 3303 (same thing but better finish on the 3303) and the "Americas Cup" writing or lack there of. Anyway, I guess I'm not really asking any questions here, just more sharing my thoughts and love of this piece. I always seem to get positive comments so here are a few gratuitous pictures. I apologize to those who have seen them countless times before ... Have a great rest of the week all!

My SS Daytona Is Back From Geneva!

My AD phoned me today! My SS Daytona was sent to Rolex S.A. in Geneva on the 14th. of May..

Apparantly, the watch spent some time in customs since it was sent back from Rolex S.A. in Geneva on the 24th. of July...

Here is what was wrong with it:

1) The chronograph hand was not resetting properly.... it either stopped 1 sec. before or 1 sec. after 12, depending on what time you reset the chrono hand (either before are after "30"):

2) There was some fingerprints / dust on the triangle tip of the chrono hand and also at the hands stack:

I really hope Rolex removed these nasty scratches which are caused by the underside of the clasp rubbing against the overside of the polished links:

Since I have no days off from work before end of August, I have asked my AD to send me my watch, insured and as fragile parcel..

I hope to get it back on Saturday.... I will post pics of it as soon as I get it home!

The dial is decorated with original geometric inserts of mother-of-pearl and metallization which move together with the plates so the pattern of the dial is always different. They say that the same dial pattern appears just once a month.

The new Dior watch is housed by a stainless steel case measuring 44 mm in diameter. The dial is framed with a bezel decorated with original black sapphire crystal inserts. The screw-in case back of the watch is equipped with sapphire crystal. Water resistance of the watch is 50 meters.

The watch goes together with a black alligator leather strap with a stainless steel ardillon clasp. The watch will be produced in a limited edition and will be available for sail in autumn 2009.

The BaselWorld 2009 unveiled all the information concerning the new chronograph watch – 20 000 Feet by CX Swiss Military Watch - with the depth capacity of incredible 6000 meters. That is a true new world record for an automatic diver’s timepiece which broke the 2005 water resistance record of the watch created by the same company - 12 000 Feet by CX Swiss Military Watch.

Frank M. Burgin and his team of watchmakers were facing a really tricky task to beat not only their own water resistance record but also the record established by Rolex with its Seadweller ‘Deep Sea’ 3900m in 2008.

First of all they had to find a pressure chamber that could create water pressure of 800bar at a depth of 8000 meters. Then the team of engineers started to make difficult mathematical calculations to find out the dimensions of the timepiece which would be able to endure pressure of 750 kg/sm2. After several tries they managed to create a virtual prototype and the production of the pilot sample began.

It took months to solve the technical problems as fixation of the massive domed sapphire crystal 10 mm thick to the titanium case. Finally by the end of the year of 2008 several pilot samples were produced and the testing began. The crown, push pieces and the safe clasp were tested several times by static and dynamic pressure in the Dubois laboratory in La-Chaux-de-Fonds. And all the tests proved that the calculations were right. Then the pilot samples of the new timepiece were tested in the Oceanographic Institute of the University of Southampton in Great Britain. Their pressure chambers allowed testing the samples for the needed water resistance of 6000 meters. And again the tests were passed successfully which allowed the timepiece getting the ISO 6425 certification of standard.

The amazing timepiece is housed by a titanium case measuring 46 mm X 28.5 mm in size. The weight of the watch is 265 grams. The case is equipped with a helium valve.

The new 20 000 Feet by CX Swiss Military Watch is antimagnetic according to the ISO 764 standard. The timepiece is equipped with an automatic movement chronograph ЕТА 7750.

The new timepiece is produced in a limited edition of 1000 pieces.
